Dr. Yasanne Garraway-Lashley is a Lecturer II in the Division of Education and the Humanities at the University of Guyana. Dr. Yassanne Garraway-Lashley is a dedicated science educator and lecturer in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Guyana, Berbice Campus (UGBC). With an impressive 25-year career in education, she has taught at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels, shaping the minds of future educators and scientists.
Beyond teaching, Dr. Garraway-Lashley has held key leadership roles, including Senior Mistress and Head of the Science Department at the secondary level, as well as Coordinator at the Division of Education and Humanities at UGBC. She also served as a part-time lecturer at Cyril Potter College of Education, where she contributed to the training and development of aspiring teachers.
Her commitment to academic excellence is reflected in her extensive qualifications: a Class 1 Grade 1 Trained Teacher Certificate from Cyril Potter College of Education, a Bachelor's degree in Science Education, and a Master's degree in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Guyana. In 2023, she earned her doctorate in Leadership and Innovation from Arizona State University, USA.
Dr. Garraway-Lashley has written and published works in science education and teacher education, contributing valuable research to the field. Her research interests span science education, teacher education, self-regulated learning, and research supervision,
reflecting her passion for advancing pedagogical strategies and empowering educators. She strongly advocates for the need for teachers to become self-regulated learners, enabling them to model and pass these essential skills on to their students.
Outside of academia, Dr. Garraway-Lashley is actively involved in her community. She has served as a youth leader at her church, mentoring and guiding young people in their personal and spiritual growth. In her free time, she enjoys spending quality moments with her family, particularly her daughter, watching Lifetime movies and reading for leisure.
